Measuring your Dog

For general guidance I size my designs as XS, S, M and L using the below guide although they are of course, all meant for toy breed dogs.

Measuring By Girth (chest):

XS: Up to 10" 

S:   From 10" up to 13"

M:  From 13" up to 16"

L:    16" plus

 

Although yarn always has some give/stretch, it is important you measure your dog correctly and double/triple check before ordering.

Always use a soft tape measure and always measure your dog when they are standing. All dogs vary in size even those of the same breed so please do measure your dog. If your dog has a thick/dense or long coat always take this into account when measuring. If your dog is clipped short at the time of purchasing the item always give a bit extra for coat re-growth.

Back Length - Place tape measure on your dog's shoulder blades and measure to the base of the tail (do not include the tail).

Girth (chest) - Place tape measure on the dog's shoulder blades and measure right around the chest at the deepest point. This is usually following the line from the shoulder blades downwards just behind the front legs.

Neck – Place tape measure around the dog's neck at the widest point where the neck meets the body.
